Tragedy Strikes: Two Policemen Beaten to Death Following Fatal Accident in Rivers State

Two policemen attached to the Rivers State Police Command met a tragic end over the weekend in Ikpeshi, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Rivers State, after their convoy allegedly collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the rider and passengers. The officers, part of an escort team for a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Agbaje, were reportedly attacked by irate youths following the accident.

According to reports gathered by journalist, the policemen were in a Hilux convoy when the incident occurred. Subsequently, enraged youths stormed the Edo State Security Volunteer Network office where the officers sought protective custody, leading to a fatal assault on two of them. The remaining officers were rescued by members of the vigilante group and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that further details would be disclosed in due course. However, the chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Tajudeen Alade, condemned the violent actions of the youths and praised the efforts of the vigilante in saving the lives of the officers. He vowed to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and pledged support for the victims’ families, including the twin sister of one of the deceased motorcycle passengers.
