Tragedy in Ibadan: Community Mourns as Father of Six Takes Own Life

A 55-year-old father of six, known as Abib, also referred to as Bibson, tragically ended his own life. The somber discovery was made on Monday morning after neighbors, concerned by his absence, broke down his door, revealing a scene that has since cast a shadow over the area.

Abib’s body was found in his living room, suspended from a ceiling fan by a rope, a sight that has shocked those who knew him. “We decided to check on him after noticing his prolonged silence. What we found was beyond our worst fears,” recounted one of the neighbors, who played a part in uncovering the tragedy. In accordance with local traditions, a traditionalist conducted a brief ritual before the body was taken down.

The incident was promptly reported to the Mapo Police Station in Ibadan, where a senior police officer, speaking under the condition of anonymity, confirmed the visitation of the scene by law enforcement for investigation. “We are deeply saddened by this event and are conducting a thorough investigation,” the officer said.

Those who knew Abib described him as a peaceful and industrious individual who faced life’s challenges with resilience. He was well-regarded in the community for his dry cleaning business, despite recent hardships. “Abib was a hardworking man, always keen to provide for his family,” shared Akeem, a neighbor. However, it emerged that Abib had been battling severe personal and financial difficulties. A co-tenant revealed, “His wife had long separated from him…Life has not been easy with him.”

Further insights into his struggles included a serious infection on his hand, which significantly impacted his ability to work. “The finger was operated on some time ago, but the sore later spread,” the same co-tenant disclosed, highlighting the severity of his condition that led to medical advice on the necessity of strong medication to prevent amputation.
