Traditional Ruler Alleges Betrayal by Rivers Governor Amid Health Crisis

Eze Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse, the Traditional Ruler of Emohua Local Government Area, has accused Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, of betraying him during a critical period of his life. Awuse claims that Fubara removed him from his position as Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers’ Council while he was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), fighting for his life.

The traditional ruler, who was hospitalized for six weeks, expressed his dismay during a recent visit by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, and his political allies. Awuse lamented that, despite his significant contributions to Fubara’s political success, including supporting his candidacy and actively participating in campaign activities across all 23 local government areas, the governor publicly dismissed him as “unsteady” and accused him of ineffective leadership.

Awuse recounted the day he was removed from his position, noting that it occurred while he was in a coma for 10 hours. He emphasized that he had informed the governor of his medical trips in writing on three separate occasions, with each communication being acknowledged by the government.

“I never went out of this state without telling my governor; not just once; all written; all acknowledged. So, when somebody said he didn’t know where I went to I was surprised unless there was another chairman other than me,” Awuse stated.

The traditional ruler further expressed his disappointment in the current political climate, asserting that many of those now supporting Fubara did not contribute to his rise to power. Awuse voiced his frustration at being labeled as a man of “questionable character” and “unsteady,” labels he vehemently rejected.

Referring to his recent health struggles and the lack of support he received, Awuse credited Wike with saving his life, stating, “Your coming has added another life to me… now you have saved a life.”
