President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to restructuring Nigeria during a visit to the National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, Ondo State. Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration would pursue restructuring but emphasized the need to lay a solid foundation before implementing the changes.
In a closed-door meeting with selected leaders of Afenifere, Tinubu underscored the importance of building a strong foundation for restructuring to prevent its collapse in the future. He pledged to uphold his allegiance to Nigeria and acknowledged the enormous responsibility placed upon him, emphasizing his determination to build structures that would withstand the test of time.
Tinubu also addressed the challenges facing Nigerians, expressing empathy for the hardships they endure. He assured that the government’s policies would bring positive solutions to these challenges, urging Nigerians to focus on self-sustainability by growing and consuming locally produced foods.
Responding to Tinubu’s assurances, Pa Fasoranti commended the President’s performance so far and urged him to govern fairly and courageously. He emphasized the Yoruba people’s longstanding advocacy for restructuring and fiscal federalism, urging Tinubu to address these issues with courage and determination.
Pa Fasoranti highlighted the importance of preparing for Nigeria’s future population growth and advocated for regional competitions to drive development, akin to the successes witnessed during the First Republic. He urged Tinubu to consider a review of the 2014 National Constitutional Conference to guide the restructuring process effectively.
Furthermore, Pa Fasoranti emphasized the need for state governments to translate increased allocations from the Federation account into grassroots development. He urged Tinubu to persuade governors to ensure that the benefits of policy changes reflect positively at the grassroots level.
In a separate condolence visit to the family of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, President Tinubu praised Akeredolu’s fearless commitment to good governance. He described the late governor as a courageous fighter and expressed condolences to his family.
In response, Mrs. Akeredolu expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the visit, acknowledging his bond with the late governor and his unwavering support during their time of grief.
