Tinubu Calls for Patience Amid Fuel Subsidy Removal Hardships

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to remain patient with his administration, promising that the nation is on the brink of a transformative period. In a video released by the State House on August 7, 2024, Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced by citizens due to the removal of fuel subsidies and admitted that an “avoidable lag” between the subsidy removal and his administration’s plans had exacerbated the difficulties.

“Fellow Nigerians, this period may be hard on us and there’s no doubt that it is tough on us but I urge you all to look beyond the present temporary pains and aim at the larger picture. All our good and helpful plans are in the works. More importantly, I know that they would work. Sadly, there was an avoidable lag between subsidy removal and these plans coming fully on line,” Tinubu said.

The President assured that his administration’s measures would alleviate the ongoing economic crisis and urged Nigerians to trust in his leadership. He highlighted his commitment to making education more affordable and providing loans to higher education students to prevent financial barriers from hindering their academic pursuits.

“I plead with you, please, have faith in our ability to deliver and in our concern for your well-being. We will get out of this turbulence and due to the measures we have taken, Nigeria will be better equipped and able to take advantage of the future that awaits her. Our commitment is to promote the greatest good for the greatest number of our people. On principle, we shall never falter,” Tinubu emphasized.

Tinubu’s address marks his second public appeal for calm amid ongoing tensions in various parts of the country. He concluded by reaffirming his dedication to bringing about a new and prosperous era for Nigeria, stating, “We are exiting the darkness to enter a new and glorious dawn. Now, I must get back to work in order to make this vision come true.”
