Tiger Woods Undergoes Another Back Surgery After Injury-Hit Season

Fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods has undergone yet another back surgery after a challenging season plagued by injuries. According to a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the 48-year-old American underwent a “microdepression surgery of the lumbar spine” to address nerve impingement in his lower back. The surgery, performed in Florida, was deemed successful by the surgeon.

Woods last competed at The Open in Troon this July, where he missed the cut, and he has struggled with back spasms and pain throughout the 2024 season. “The surgery went smoothly, and I’m hopeful it will alleviate the back spasms and the pain I was experiencing,” Woods said, adding that he is committed to rehab and preparing for a return to normal activities, including golf.

This marks yet another surgery for Woods, who has faced numerous back operations over the past decade and has played a limited schedule since a serious leg injury sustained in a 2021 car accident. This year, he competed in all four major championships, but missed the cut in three of them and finished 60th at the Masters. He also withdrew during the second round of the Genesis Invitational in February due to flu-like symptoms.
