The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, has announced a 24-hour closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for traffic bound from Iyana Oworonshoki to Lagos Island. The closure is scheduled to take effect from midnight on Sunday, February 18, until midnight on Monday, February 19.
The closure aims to facilitate critical repairs required on a section of the bridge, ensuring the safety and integrity of this vital infrastructure.
During the closure period, motorists traveling from the Island towards Oworonshoki will maintain unrestricted access to the bridge. However, motorists bound for Lagos Island from Iyana Oworonshoki are advised to seek alternative routes during this time.
Mrs. Kesha emphasized the importance of the temporary closure for effective repair works, urging drivers to cooperate with traffic authorities and government officials. She also provided suggested alternative routes for motorists to consider during the repair period.
The suggested alternative routes include:
- Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams Avenue-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS
- Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Jibowu-Yaba-Oyingbo-Iddo-Carter bridge-CMS
- Gbagada-Anthony-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS
Drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly, follow instructions from traffic authorities, and exercise patience during the temporary closure of the Third Mainland Bridge.
