Tension Mounts as Political Thugs Target Governorship Aspirants’ Campaign Billboards

The Wale Akinterinwa Campaign Organisation has raised concerns over the destruction of billboards belonging to its principal, Wale Akinterinwa, allegedly by suspected political thugs. This incident comes just weeks before the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled for April 25, 2024.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Akinterinwa are both vying for the party’s ticket, intensifying the political landscape in the state. The spokesperson for the Wale Akinterinwa Campaign Organisation, Mr. Segun Ajiboye, urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to rein in his supporters and halt the attacks on their campaign materials.

However, the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers, represented by its Director of Publicity, Mr. Kayode Fasua, refuted the allegations, dismissing them as falsehoods aimed at tarnishing the governor’s reputation. Fasua emphasized the need for thorough investigation before making accusations and suggested that the billboards may have succumbed to natural elements due to their poor quality.

The Wale Akinterinwa Campaign Organisation recalled previous instances of alleged vandalism during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state in February, where the governor reportedly promised to address the matter but no action has been taken since. They called on the APC leadership at both state and national levels to intervene and prevent further damage to the party’s reputation.

In response, Fasua urged Akinterinwa’s campaign group to conduct a proper investigation before making accusations, suggesting that internal discrepancies might be to blame for the alleged destruction of billboards.
