The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old girl, identified as Wumi, for allegedly stabbing her foster mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Adelayi, to death in their residence at Oda, Akure.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the incident occurred last Wednesday, with the family claiming that the suspect may have been suffering from mental illness. However, the police are awaiting a medical report to confirm this assertion.
Mrs. Adelayi, who worked at the Ondo State Ministry of Finance, was found dead in her residence three days after the incident, with signs of struggle evident from her bedroom to the living room. The doors were reportedly shut, preventing her from seeking help.
Neighbors described the scene as tragic, with bloodstains and the murder weapon found beside the deceased. The remains of Mrs. Adelayi have been deposited at a hospital morgue in Akure.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter, with the suspect currently in custody.
