The “Take It Back Movement,” a human rights group, took to the streets of Lagos State to protest against the escalating prices of food and the overall high cost of living in Nigeria. Despite warnings from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, the protesters gathered at Ojuelegba under the bridge area to voice their grievances.
The National Coordinator of the TIB, Juwon Sanyaolu, emphasized that the protest aimed to highlight the people’s resistance against oppressive conditions and economic hardship. Despite police presence, the demonstrators marched from Yaba Labour House to Maryland, demonstrating the resilience of Lagosians in the face of challenges.
Sanyaolu outlined their demands, calling for an immediate reversal of the fuel subsidy removal, the floating of the naira, and other policies imposed by the International Monetary Fund. The group intends to continue their protest, joining the nationwide mass action organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress to address the hardship imposed by the ruling elite.
