Super Eagles Coach Finidi George Urges Team to Rebound After Shock Loss

Super Eagles coach Finidi George has stressed the need for Nigeria to regroup and start securing victories following a surprising 2-1 defeat to the Republic of Benin in a 2026 World Cup qualifier held in Abidjan last night. In the wake of the unexpected loss, George called for greater commitment from his players.

“We will see when the new season begins how we can get the best out of the players,” George remarked. “They have to show more commitment for us to start winning games. When we start winning, the fight is still on.”

Despite the daunting challenge ahead, with Nigeria holding just three points from four matches, the coach remained resolute. “We can’t throw in the towel because we have three points from four matches,” he asserted. “We will have to win games, if we win games, the battle will still be there.”

George emphasized the need to rejuvenate the team and boost player performance. “We have to find a way to get these players back in a way they can perform,” he said, underscoring the importance of strategy and morale in turning the team’s fortunes around.

The Super Eagles will need a significant turnaround to keep their World Cup hopes alive, with George’s leadership and the players’ renewed dedication being crucial to their campaign.
