St Johnstone Sack Manager Craig Levein After Five Matches

St Johnstone have parted ways with manager Craig Levein just five games into the new Scottish Premiership season. Levein, 59, who took charge in November last year and helped the team avoid relegation, was dismissed after a disappointing start to the campaign. The Perth side currently sit 10th in the table, with one win and four defeats.

Levein, a former Scotland manager, had guided the Saints to three victories from four games in the Premier Sports Cup earlier in the season, but recent form saw the team slump to four consecutive defeats in all competitions. Their latest setback came in a 2-0 loss away to Hibernian.

Coaches Andy Kirk and Alex Cleland will take temporary charge for the upcoming fixture against Ross County.

Levein, who previously managed Hearts, Leicester City, and Dundee United, had been in his role for less than a year. His stint with Scotland, from 2009 to 2012, saw him win 10 of 24 matches.

The dismissal comes after American Adam Webb took control of St Johnstone this summer, following the departure of long-term owner Geoff Brown.

In a brief statement, the club expressed gratitude for Levein’s contributions: “The board of directors can announce that St Johnstone Football Club has today parted company with manager Craig Levein. The football club would like to place on record its thanks to Craig for all of his efforts during his time at McDiarmid Park.”
