Online streaming giant Spotify has marked the 10th anniversary of Wizkid’s hit single “Ojuelegba,” celebrating its influence on the global rise of Afrobeats. In a statement by Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, the platform revealed that the song has amassed over 55 million streams since its 2014 release.
“Today marks the 10th anniversary of Wizkid’s groundbreaking single, ‘Ojuelegba,’ a song that helped define the global rise of Afrobeats and continues to resonate with millions of listeners across the world,” Okumu said.
She noted that the song’s popularity extends across major markets, with the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, and Nigeria leading in streams. Okumu emphasized that “Ojuelegba’s journey reflects the global growth of Afrobeats and its increasing presence on the world stage.”
The track is widely regarded as one of Wizkid’s most influential works, contributing to his legacy as one of Africa’s top artists. As it hits its 10-year milestone, “Ojuelegba” remains celebrated as an iconic Afrobeats anthem, showcasing the power of African music on the global stage.
