Sophia Momodu, the mother of Davido’s daughter, has urged a Lagos State High Court in Sabo, Yaba, to deny the musician custody of their child. In a counter-affidavit filed on Friday, Momodu argued that Davido is unfit to care for their daughter, citing his frequent absences and lack of responsibility.
Momodu alleged that during their relationship, Davido showed little commitment or love towards their daughter. “He always used the condition of making myself available for his sexual pleasures as a precondition to visit our daughter or show some fatherly love to her,” she claimed. She further accused Davido of using their daughter for media stunts and promotions and neglecting his parental duties when his sexual advances were rejected.
The affidavit detailed an incident where Davido allegedly threw Momodu and their daughter out of his Atlanta home in 2017, forcing them to stay with a friend. Momodu insisted she has never denied Davido access to their daughter, but he chose to be “an absentee father” and only visited at inappropriate hours to seek sexual favors.
“When I noticed that the intention of the applicant for coming late at night to my house was not to visit our daughter but to seek sexual favors, even after our relationship had ended, I told him to desist from such late-night visits,” Momodu stated.
She also highlighted Davido’s inconsistent financial support, mentioning unpaid school fees from 2021 and 2022 that led to their daughter’s school threatening to deny her entry. Momodu credited Davido’s father for eventually settling the fees.
Represented by Chief Anthony Idigbe, SAN, Momodu’s legal team raised concerns over the public mention of their daughter’s name in a hearing notice published by Davido’s legal team. Justice A. J. Bashua agreed that the child’s name should not have been disclosed, referencing Sections 143 and 144 of the Child’s Rights Law of Lagos State, which protect the privacy of minors in legal matters.
At the hearing’s conclusion, the court referred the case to the Alternative Dispute Resolution section for a possible settlement during Settlement Week.
