Shohei Ohtani Becomes First MLB Player to Record 50 Home Runs and 50 Stolen Bases in a Season

Shohei Ohtani made baseball history by becoming the first player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 20-4 win over the Miami Marlins. The 30-year-old superstar capped the night with 51 home runs and 51 steals.

Ohtani stole third base in the first inning, securing the first part of the milestone. Later, he smashed his 49th and 50th home runs, tying and surpassing the Dodgers’ single-season home run record held by Shawn Green since 2001. Ohtani also added another steal to his tally, completing the unprecedented 50-50 feat.

Reflecting on his achievement, Ohtani said, “To be honest, I’m the one probably most surprised… I’m glad that I performed well today.”

Having joined the Dodgers on a record-breaking 10-year, $700 million contract in December, Ohtani has now helped lead the team to the postseason for the 12th consecutive year, adding to his already stellar legacy.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred praised Ohtani, calling him a “groundbreaking player” whose latest accomplishment reflects his exceptional power, speed, and commitment to the game. “We are proud that he continues to take our game to new heights,” Manfred said.
