Jos, Nigeria— President Bola Tinubu’s son, Mr. Seyi Tinubu, has pledged to assist survivors of the Saint Academy Jos school building collapse in their recovery efforts. The tragic incident on July 12 resulted in the deaths of 22 individuals and left 154 others injured.
During his visit to the site of the collapse and the hospitals treating the injured, Tinubu, represented by Mr. Belusochukwu Enwere, National Chairman of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, expressed his deep sorrow over the tragedy.
“I am here to convey a message of hope to all those injured, wishing them a quick recovery so they can return to classes and pursue their dreams. We pray for the souls of those who died to rest in peace,” he said.
Tinubu promised to cover the medical bills of the injured to ensure they receive proper care and can return to school. He also emphasized the importance of adhering to building standards to prevent future tragedies and called on the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Institute of Building to enforce strict measures.
Mr. Panmak Lere, Chairman of YOWICAN in Plateau, expressed gratitude for the support promised to the victims. He highlighted that there were still unpaid bills from the Yelwa Zangam attacks during the previous administration and hoped the current administration would address these debts.
Rev. Sister Jovita Egwu, Administrator of Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Hospital, confirmed that all hospitalized victims were still receiving treatment and stressed the urgency of the promised financial support from the government.
“The state government has announced that they will take care of the treatment costs. We hope they will follow through on this because, during the Yelwa Zangam attack, up to today, about N2 million remains unpaid,” she stated.
Egwu urged prompt action from the government, emphasizing the need for immediate supplies to manage the current emergency effectively.
