Senator Orji Uzor Kalu: President Tinubu Aware of Nigerians’ Hardships

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has stated that President Bola Tinubu is fully aware of the suffering and hardships faced by Nigerians. In an interview on Channels TV’s “Politics Today,” Kalu emphasized that the president is actively working to ensure that Nigerians experience the benefits of democracy.

Kalu dismissed claims that Tinubu is disconnected from the realities of everyday life for Nigerians, asserting, “The President is aware Nigerians are hungry. He knows Nigerians are suffering.” He described Tinubu as a “street person” who is familiar with the challenges faced by citizens, noting that the president often travels through the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at night.

“He moves around in his car at night. He is very courageous,” Kalu remarked, highlighting Tinubu’s willingness to engage with the public.

Regarding his relationship with the president, Kalu stated he has never had any issues with Tinubu, recalling how he abandoned his ambition for the Senate presidency at the president’s request. However, he acknowledged voting for Senator Abdulaziz Yari instead of the president’s preferred candidate, Godswill Akpabio, in the recent election.

“I never quarrelled with the President. He asked me not to contest and I didn’t contest. But I voted for Yari and I don’t regret voting for him,” Kalu asserted.
