Ruger Credits Burna Boy for Introducing Live Band to Afrobeats Performances

Nigerian music sensation Ruger has attributed the integration of live bands into Afrobeats performances to his Grammy-winning colleague, Burna Boy.

In a recent conversation with Billboard alongside BNXN, Ruger emphasized Burna Boy’s pioneering role in revolutionizing live performances within the Afrobeats genre. He highlighted that prior to Burna Boy’s adoption of live bands, most Afrobeats artists relied solely on DJ sets during their stage appearances. Ruger asserted, “Before Burna Boy started this live band thing most Afrobeats Act would just go on stage with their DJs and bounce, Burna boy makes live performance enjoyable.”

Expressing admiration for Burna Boy’s impact, Ruger underscored the significance of recognizing the contributions made by the veteran artist. Despite any formal acknowledgment, Ruger emphasized that the younger generation of Nigerian musicians acknowledges and appreciates Burna Boy’s influence on the evolution of Afrobeats performance standards.
