A tragic road crash involving an articulated vehicle, with registration number KTG 454 ZZ, along the Zaria-Kano Expressway has resulted in the loss of not less than 12 lives, with 28 others sustaining varying degrees of injuries. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, attributing it to factors such as overtaking, speeding, and overloading.
The accident occurred at Tashar Yari Village around 7:36 am on Monday, according to the FRSC media office in Kaduna. The Chairman of Makarfi Local Government Area and the Unit Commander of Tashar Yari were present at the scene to assess the situation.
An investigation revealed that 40 people were involved in the crash, with 28 sustaining injuries and 12 fatalities. The injured have been transported to Mararfi General Hospital for further treatment. The owner of the vehicle, based in Azare, Bauchi State, has been contacted and directed to report to the RS1.1 Kaduna Sector Command.
The FRSC emphasized the importance of road safety and pledged to continue collaborating with transport unions and the media to educate drivers on the dangers of speeding, overloading, reckless driving, and using phones while driving.
