Rivers PDP Urges Boycott of October 5 Local Government Elections Amid Court Ruling

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has called on its members and the public to boycott the local government council elections scheduled for October 5, citing a Federal High Court ruling. The party warned Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara against proceeding with the elections in defiance of the court’s decision.

PDP Chairman Chukwuemeka Aaron, in a statement from Port Harcourt, emphasized that the elections should not be held, urging residents to disregard any announcements related to the polls. He stressed that conducting the elections would violate the court’s ruling and that the party stands firm in upholding the rule of law.

Aaron further called on Governor Fubara, a PDP member, to respect the court’s ruling and suspend the planned elections. He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for adhering to the court’s decision by withholding the Voters Register from the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), which is necessary for conducting the elections.

“Any attempt to declare results from an election that should not take place will be considered an act of lawlessness and will not be tolerated,” Aaron warned, urging citizens to stand firm in ensuring compliance with the court’s judgment.
