During the CORFEPS week in Abuja, the Council of Retired Federal Permanent Secretaries and Heads of the Civil Service of the Federation highlighted the importance of their experience and expertise for the advancement of public service in Nigeria. The theme, “Reflections on Nigeria’s Public Service: Way forward for good governance,” underscored the need for their continued involvement in shaping governance.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babagana Kingibe, expressed concern that retired permanent secretaries often face neglect once they leave office, emphasizing that their wealth of knowledge and advice is valuable to the nation. He stressed the importance of restoring transparency and accountability in the public service.
Chairman of the occasion, Oba (Dr.) Samuel Falae, echoed the sentiment that retired officials still have opportunities to serve the nation, urging them to continue contributing their collective wisdom and knowledge.
Yayale Ahmed, Chairman of CORFEPS, emphasized the role of the public service as the government’s engine room, urging retirees to be brave, courageous, and truthful in their endeavors to ensure their reservoir of knowledge benefits the nation.
Prof. Tunji Olaopa, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, praised retired permanent secretaries for their managerial acumen and professionalism, particularly during challenging times in Nigeria’s history. He highlighted their ability to navigate complex situations and contribute to national unity and development.
