Rees-Zammit Joins Jacksonville Jaguars’ Practice Squad After Missing Chiefs’ Final Roster

Louis Rees-Zammit, the former Wales rugby union star, has been added to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad following his pre-season stint with the Kansas City Chiefs. After failing to secure a spot on the Chiefs’ 53-man roster, Rees-Zammit was expected to remain with their practice squad. However, the Jaguars signed the 23-year-old, listing him as a wide receiver after the waiver deadline passed.

Initially signed as a running back by the back-to-back Super Bowl champions on a three-year deal, Rees-Zammit’s transition to American football came through the NFL’s International Player Pathway (IPP) program. He participated in three pre-season games with the Chiefs, including one against the Jaguars, but was ultimately left out on ‘cutdown day.’

Rees-Zammit’s move to the Jaguars offers him a fresh start as he continues to chase his NFL dream. Despite missing out on the Chiefs’ final roster, his performance during the IPP pro day in March attracted interest from several NFL franchises, with Jacksonville ultimately securing his services.

The former British and Irish Lion made headlines earlier this year when he announced his departure from rugby to pursue a career in the NFL. Now, he will continue that pursuit in Florida, where the Jaguars have a strong UK presence, including two games scheduled in London this season.

As a practice squad member, Rees-Zammit will train with the Jaguars but will be ineligible to play in games unless elevated to the active roster. His journey in American football is far from over as he embarks on this new chapter with the Jaguars.
