Setting the record straight, Reekado Banks sheds light on his departure from Mavin Records, emphasizing the amicable nature of the transition and expressing gratitude to Don Jazzy for transforming his life.
In an interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Reekado Banks addressed the misconception surrounding his exit from Mavin Records, countering the norm of artists leaving labels on less-than-friendly terms. He highlighted that his departure was marked by mutual understanding.
“That man took me from absolutely nothing. I wonder why anyone would think it wasn’t amicable. The end of the contract came, I wanted to leave, and he (Don Jazzy) gave me his blessings,” shared Reekado, dispelling assumptions of discord.
Commenting on the prevalent tradition of artists parting ways with record labels amid disputes, Reekado acknowledged the influence of such narratives but stressed that it didn’t define his relationship with Don Jazzy. “I feel like it’s a tradition in the Nigerian record label business for artists to break out angrily from their record labels, and this is being imposed on my relationship with Jazzy,” he said.
Describing Don Jazzy as a blessing and expressing eternal gratitude, Reekado Banks conveyed the positive impact the music mogul had on his life, challenging the notion of acrimony in their parting.
