Ralf Rangnick has disclosed that Bayern Munich has approached him regarding the vacant manager’s position at the Bundesliga club. With current Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel set to depart at the end of the season, speculation has been rife about potential successors, with Rangnick emerging as a frontrunner.
The 65-year-old, currently managing the Austria national team in preparation for the upcoming European Championship, confirmed the contact from Bayern Munich and informed the Austrian Football Association about the development.
In an interview with 90minuten.at, Rangnick stated that he would seriously consider Bayern’s interest if they formally express their desire for him to take charge. However, he emphasized that his decision would hinge on various factors, including his own aspirations and discussions with the Austrian FA.
While acknowledging the significance of the opportunity, Rangnick emphasized that his decision would not be driven by financial considerations but rather by the potential to make a difference and achieve success.
Rangnick boasts a distinguished coaching career in Germany, having managed clubs such as Stuttgart, Hannover, Hoffenheim, Schalke, and RB Leipzig. Notably, he guided Schalke to the German Cup triumph and a Champions League semi-final appearance in 2011.
