Paris St-Germain were left ruing missed opportunities and a last-minute overturned penalty as they settled for a 1-1 draw against PSV Eindhoven in their Champions League clash. Despite dominating the game with 26 shots on goal, PSG’s lack of a clinical finisher since Kylian Mbappé’s summer departure was evident, as they squandered several golden chances.
Ousmane Dembélé, in particular, missed two clear opportunities, hitting the crossbar from close range and blasting another over. PSG’s frustrations were compounded when referee Glenn Nyberg initially awarded a penalty for a challenge on Marco Asensio but overturned the decision after a VAR review, determining that Olivier Boscagli had made a clean tackle.
PSV took the lead against the run of play when Noa Lang capitalized on a midfield error by Joao Neves and fired a sharp finish into the near post. PSG’s equalizer came in the second half through Achraf Hakimi, whose powerful 25-yard strike slipped through goalkeeper Walter Benitez’s legs.
Despite their relentless attacking efforts, PSG couldn’t find a winner, with Hakimi and Bradley Barcola coming close. PSV almost snatched a late victory as Mauro Junior curled a shot just wide. The result leaves PSG with just four points from their opening three Champions League games, raising concerns about their offensive output with only two goals scored in the competition so far.
