President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sanctioned a significant enhancement of health infrastructure across teaching hospitals in Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, as announced by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale on Friday.
Ngelale revealed that this ambitious upgrade is slated for completion within a 12 to 18-month timeframe, signaling a swift and comprehensive approach to improving healthcare services.
The facilities set to benefit from this initiative include the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, University of Nigeria (Nsukka) Teaching Hospital, Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, University of Jos Teaching Hospital, and Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
Furthermore, President Tinubu has green-lighted the expansion of critical healthcare services in ten hospitals nationwide. This expansion encompasses specialized areas such as radiology, clinical pathology, medical and radiation oncology, and cardiac catheterization.
The hospitals earmarked for these specialized services are spread across Nigeria, ensuring a wide-reaching impact. Among them are the Reference Hospital in Kaduna, Medical Diagnostic Centre Complex in Enugu, Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto, University College Hospital in Ibadan, and University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
This initiative also extends to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, Federal Medical Centre in Asaba, Harmony Advanced Diagnostic Centre Complex in Ilorin, Jos University Teaching Hospital, and Federal Medical Centre in Nguru.
