Polish Man Charged Over Alleged Plot to Assassinate Ukraine’s President Zelensky

Polish and Ukrainian authorities have announced charges against a Polish man accused of aiding an alleged Russian plot to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Identified as Paweł K, the man faces charges of “readiness to act for foreign intelligence against the Republic of Poland,” which carries a potential sentence of up to eight years in prison if convicted.

According to Polish prosecutors, Paweł K was allegedly tasked by Russian special services to assist in planning a possible attack on President Zelensky’s life. He reportedly agreed to provide information about security at Rzeszów-Jasionka airport, frequently used by Zelensky for foreign trips due to its proximity to the Ukrainian border.

The Ukrainian authorities uncovered the plot and provided crucial evidence to Polish officials, leading to the arrest of the accused on Polish territory. Prosecutors stated that Paweł K had direct contact with individuals involved in the conflict in Ukraine, though it remains unclear whether he provided or collected any information.

This incident marks another alleged attempt to harm President Zelensky, who has faced multiple assassination attempts amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Zelensky has emerged as a prominent figure in Ukraine’s resistance efforts and has actively sought Western support.

News of the Polish arrest coincided with reports of German police apprehending two suspected Russian agents in Bayreuth. The individuals, accused of plotting sabotage attacks targeting US military facilities in Germany, were allegedly in contact with Russian intelligence agents. German authorities have denounced the actions as a serious threat to international security, while the Russian Embassy in Berlin dismissed the accusations as provocations.
