The Rivers State Police Command has announced the arrest of two individuals suspected of engaging in motorcycle theft and robbing bank customers. Identified as Ikenna Obiko, aged 30, and Isichukwu Eneji, aged 24, the suspects were apprehended while riding motorcycles during routine checks along the Olu Obasanjo axis of Port Harcourt.
According to Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson of the State Police Command, both suspects confessed to their involvement in the crimes. Iringe-Koko revealed that the duo specialized in robbing victims of their money and possessions inside parked cars using specialized keys. Additionally, they confessed to stealing parked motorcycles by using ignition wires and robbing unsuspecting bank customers after withdrawals at banks and ATM centers.
The suspects were also implicated in a recent robbery case involving an Indomie Noodles vehicle, from which they took N100,000 from the driver. Police investigations confirmed that within this year alone, the suspects had stolen three motorcycles, with one currently held at the Borokiri Police Station in Port Harcourt. Two motorcycles were reported stolen from Choba Road and Eliozu in the Obio/Akpo local government area of the state.
Both suspects, now in police custody at the Borokiri Police Station, are natives of Oguta in Imo State. Ikenna is married with two children, while Isichukwu has a wife and three children. Investigations revealed that they relocated to Port Harcourt last year amidst the Indigenous People of Biafra crisis in Imo State and other parts of the South East.
Ikenna claimed he was lured into crime by a deceased community leader, while Isichukwu stated that his late uncle tutored him in robbery. The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed that the suspects be promptly charged in court. CP Disu urged the public to remain law-abiding and support the police in combating crime in Rivers State.
