Plymouth Argyle Stun Championship Leaders Leicester City with 1-0 Victory

In a stunning upset at Home Park, Plymouth Argyle dealt a blow to Championship leaders Leicester City’s automatic promotion hopes while boosting their own survival chances with a 1-0 victory.

Despite being outplayed for the first 20 minutes, Argyle took the lead through Mustapha Bundu’s calm right-footed finish at the end of an excellent counter-attack.

Leicester’s Patson Daka had two fantastic chances to equalize in the second half, but Plymouth’s defense held firm, frustrating the Foxes and denying them any goals.

The win for Plymouth, under temporary leadership following the sacking of head coach Ian Foster, sees them move up from 20th to 16th in the Championship table, putting them five points clear of the relegation zone.

Leicester, who earlier learned they would not face a points deduction this season over financial issues, suffered their second successive away defeat. Despite remaining at the top of the table with 88 points, they are now level on points with Ipswich Town and one point ahead of Leeds United, both of whom have the opportunity to overtake Leicester.

Plymouth director of football Neil Dewsnip expressed his delight with the victory, emphasizing the hard work and determination of his players. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence in the team’s ability to secure more points in the remaining games.

Leicester manager Enzo Maresca admitted disappointment with the back-to-back defeats but remained optimistic, emphasizing the importance of taking their chances in the remaining games. Despite the setbacks, he highlighted the positive aspect that their fate still remains in their own hands.
