Piastri Ready to Assist Norris in Title Fight at Singapore GP

Oscar Piastri has indicated he is prepared to support his McLaren teammate Lando Norris in his bid for the championship if necessary, ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix. Piastri, fresh off his victory in Baku, stated that McLaren’s strategy remains unchanged, with Norris being the primary contender for the championship.

“Lando is still ahead in the championship and just being honest has a more realistic chance of winning the championship,” Piastri said. “If there are times I can help out for Lando’s championship bid, then I’ll be happy to help if I can.”

Norris enters the Singapore weekend trailing Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by 59 points, while Piastri is a further 32 points behind. McLaren has already signaled their intention to prioritize Norris, given his closer position to Verstappen in the standings.

Despite his success in Baku, where Piastri secured victory with Norris’ tactical assistance in holding up Sergio Perez, the Australian acknowledged that situations like this are difficult to predict until they occur on track.

Meanwhile, Verstappen admitted Red Bull might face challenges in Singapore, where the bumpy circuit has previously posed issues for their car. Verstappen, who has not won in seven races, expressed confidence in improving upon last year’s performance, but remains cautious about their prospects this weekend.

McLaren and Red Bull will both be eyeing crucial points in what promises to be a pivotal race in the championship fight.
