England midfielder Phil Foden has temporarily left the Euro 2024 camp in Germany to return to the UK for the birth of his third child. The Football Association announced that the Manchester City star, 24, needed to attend to a “pressing family matter.”
Foden is expected to rejoin the squad by Sunday, when England faces Slovakia in their last-16 match at 17:00 BST.
In April, Foden and his partner Rebecca Cooke shared on Instagram that they were expecting their third child. The couple already has two children: Ronnie, five, and True, two.
Foden, who has earned 37 caps for England, has been a key player in all three of England’s group games at Euro 2024, including the recent draw with Slovenia. Gareth Southgate’s team finished top of Group C with five points from three matches.
England’s last-16 tie will take place in Gelsenkirchen, with their opponents to be confirmed after the final group games on Wednesday.
