Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alongside stakeholders in Canada, are gearing up to address Nigeria’s escalating insecurity and economic woes through a strategic meeting slated for May 3, 2024, at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Facilitated by the Coalition of Nigerian Canadian Interest Groups (CONCIG), the gathering aims to bolster collaboration between the Canadian and Nigerian governments, with a focus on fostering good governance for present and future generations.
According to Vwede Obahor, the CONCIG Coalition Lead, the initiative seeks to engage Nigerian business and political leaders in constructive dialogue with Canadian political stakeholders. This interaction is envisioned to cultivate high-level engagements and relationships conducive to socio-economic advancement between Nigeria and Canada.
Fabian Nwaoha, the coalition’s coordinator, highlighted Peter Obi’s advocacy for reducing the cost of governance, which resonates with the governance model observed in Canada. Obi is slated to deliver the keynote address, emphasizing the parallels between effective governance in Canada and Nigeria’s aspirations.
Furthermore, the CONCIG coalition plans to extend invitations to other esteemed policymakers in Nigeria to engage with the Diaspora community and liaise with government officials in Canada. This collaborative effort aims to forge an alliance that fosters mutual benefits for both nations.
