PDP Suspends Dino Melaye Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended former senator and governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, over allegations of anti-party activities. Melaye’s suspension was initiated by the PDP executive committee in Ayetoro Gbede, Ward 1, after he failed to attend a disciplinary meeting.

In a memo dated September 12, 2024, the ward executive stated that Melaye was summoned in August to respond to allegations of misconduct but did not appear before the committee.

The memo reads: “The Ward Party Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1, met on Friday the 12th of September 2024 to review the report of the disciplinary committee set up to investigate alleged anti-party activities against Senator Dino Melaye… However, he failed to show up, disregarding the invitation and the authority of the party.”

The committee emphasized that Melaye’s failure to honor the invitation constituted gross disrespect for the party’s leadership and violated the PDP’s Constitution. They stated that his actions had embarrassed the party and made his continued membership untenable.

The suspension was implemented in accordance with Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, which grants ward executives the authority to discipline members who violate party rules.
