Paqueta Urges FA to Investigate “Misleading” Leaks in Betting Case

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta has called on the Football Association (FA) to investigate what he describes as “misleading and inaccurate” leaks regarding his ongoing betting case. The 27-year-old Brazilian was charged by the FA in May, accused of deliberately receiving bookings in Premier League matches to influence the betting market.

Paqueta, who faces four charges related to fixtures against Leicester, Aston Villa, Leeds, and Bournemouth between November 2022 and August 2023, has denied the allegations. He believes that media reports containing false information are jeopardizing his chances of a fair hearing.

“I am frustrated and upset to have read recent misleading and inaccurate press articles, published in both England and Brazil, claiming to disclose information about my case,” Paqueta wrote on X (formerly Twitter). He further claimed that the information appears to be sourced from someone close to the case and is designed to undermine his position.

Paqueta expressed concern over the confidentiality of the FA proceedings, stating that the leaks are threatening the fairness of the disciplinary process. He has instructed his lawyers to request a thorough investigation into how such information is being made public.

The midfielder, who joined West Ham from Lyon in August 2022 for £36.5 million, continues to play for the club while the case is ongoing. However, if a breach is proven, Paqueta could face a lengthy suspension.

The FA has yet to comment on Paqueta’s request.
