The Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, has emphasized that the ongoing Ibadan circular road project will significantly enhance the state’s connectivity to all major road networks across the federation.
In a statement released on Saturday, Oyelade reported that the 110-kilometer circular road project is progressing well, with the bridges and interchanges on the South-West segment already completed. He projected that the entire project would be delivered within 24 months.
Oyelade commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his remarkable achievements in the state, highlighting that his second term has seen greater accomplishments compared to his first tenure. “Governor Makinde has done more for the people of Oyo State in his second term, alleviating the historical fears associated with second-term governors and their performances,” he stated.
The commissioner noted that since taking office in 2019, a total of 335.19 kilometers of roads have been constructed in the state. Of this, 144.37 kilometers were completed in the first four years, while an impressive 190.82 kilometers have been inaugurated within just 17 months of Makinde’s second term.
Additionally, Oyelade announced that 7,000 primary school teachers out of the 46,000 who participated in a recent computer-based test will receive their employment letters by the end of October. He highlighted that this recruitment surpasses the 5,000 secondary school teachers hired during Makinde’s first term.
The commissioner also revealed that other recent recruitments include Environmental Health Officers, 19 Lands Officers, and 30 Lawyers into the Oyo State Civil Service. Earlier in October, the Civil Service Commission announced the recruitment of 791 workers, bringing the total number of new hires under Makinde’s administration to 1,592, a record-breaking figure for the state.
Oyelade also mentioned that Governor Makinde has successfully repositioned the Ibadan Airport, now known as Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, to international status, aiming to establish Oyo State as the commercial hub of the southwest.
He noted the transformative impact of the Fasola Industrial Estate initiative, which now hosts 10 industries on a 1,100-hectare farm, attracting both local and international private investors.
During a leadership retreat with government officials on October 4, 2023, shortly after his re-election, Makinde pledged that his second term would witness accelerated growth across all sectors, underpinned by people-friendly policies. He emphasized that the citizens of Oyo State would not accept excuses from his administration and directed his cabinet to ensure their performance exceeds that of his first term.
