Oyetola and Adeleke Clash Over University of Ilesa Establishment

Former Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and his successor, Ademola Adeleke, have exchanged words regarding the establishment of the University of Ilesa, Osun State. The spat occurred during their respective condolence visits to the palace of Owa Obokun, following the passing of Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.

Adeleke, during his visit, claimed credit for not only ensuring the university’s establishment but also for releasing the funds needed for its takeoff. He stated, “I moved UniIlesa from mere paper approval to a functioning university with over 90 accredited courses.”

In response, Oyetola, represented by Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), accused Adeleke of misrepresenting facts. Oyetola’s camp argued that his administration initiated the university’s establishment, securing National University Commission (NUC) approval and constituting a governing council.

“There is no controversy over this. Oyetola’s government established the Ilesa University,” Oyebamiji stated. He emphasized that the former administration’s efforts to set up the university were well-documented and verifiable.
