The Osun State House of Assembly has taken disciplinary action against Mr. Lukman Afolabi, the caretaker chairman of Ede South Local Government Area, suspending him for misconduct. Afolabi presides over one of the two local government areas within Ede town, the hometown of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, the suspension was announced, directing Afolabi to hand over to his deputy immediately. Efforts to obtain further details from Tiamiyu were unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile phone went unanswered, and text messages remained unanswered.
However, a credible source within the Assembly revealed that Afolabi’s suspension stemmed from an incident during a meeting held within the Assembly complex. Afolabi allegedly insulted the Speaker, Mr. Adewale Egbedun, during discussions concerning disagreements within the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Osun State chapter.
The source explained that Afolabi’s disrespectful behavior towards a member of the House of Assembly during the meeting provoked the Speaker, prompting him to leave. Subsequently, members of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) convened with the Speaker in his office, where Afolabi continued to utter insulting remarks towards the Speaker. This led to the Assembly’s decision to suspend him.
Despite attempts to reach Afolabi for comment, he did not answer calls. In response to a text message inquiry, he expressed gratitude and indicated an intention to call back soon.
