Participants at the Valentine’s Day celebration organized by the Osun State Civil Service Union were pleasantly surprised when officials from the Ministry of Health distributed free condoms during the event. Held at the Osun State Government Secretariat in Abere, the celebration featured dancing competitions and various games, with prizes awarded to the winners.
The distribution of both male and female condoms was part of the Ministry of Health’s strategy to promote safe sex practices and prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies. Speaking to journalists, State Family Planning Coordinator Ololade Abatan emphasized the importance of using condoms for adequate protection.
Abatan stated, “For the grace that God has given us to witness this year’s Valentine’s Day, we have to protect ourselves from sexually transmitted diseases, and that is why we are here to distribute both male and female condoms to everyone.”
Meanwhile, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Head of Service Ayanleye Aina, emphasized the significance of peace and unity in society and government during his address at the event. Reflecting on the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Adeleke highlighted the importance of love in fostering forgiveness, understanding, and collective well-being.
“With love, we overlook mistakes, forgive wrongs, and embrace united living,” Adeleke remarked. “On this day of love, we all know the history of the day we are celebrating, how love led to overruling of all considerations. We remember the sacrifice simply because of heart-to-heart consideration.”
