Former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has dismissed speculations suggesting his intention to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming his allegiance to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Addressing the expanded executive committee meeting of the party, Ortom emphasized his unwavering commitment to the PDP and urged members to unite in overcoming setbacks experienced during the 2023 general elections.
Ortom urged party members to refrain from blaming each other for past electoral losses, emphasizing the need to focus on unity and revitalizing the PDP to meet the aspirations of the people. He underscored the strength and inclusivity of the PDP, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to succeed in future elections with renewed dedication.
Dismissing rumors of his defection to the APC, Ortom reiterated his firm stance on remaining in the PDP, emphasizing his leadership role within the party and his refusal to abandon his responsibilities. He emphasized that the APC had not extended any invitation to him and stressed his commitment to staying loyal to the PDP, denouncing the notion of being a political wanderer.
Echoing Ortom’s sentiments, former Governor Gabriel Suswam acknowledged the party’s electoral setbacks but urged members to reflect on past mistakes and learn from them to strengthen the party’s prospects. Similarly, Senate Minority Leader Senator Aba Moro criticized the APC’s governance, highlighting alleged mismanagement of power and asserting that divine favor had departed from the ruling party.
