In a significant show of support, 15 members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have declared their endorsement of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for re-election in the upcoming November 2024 governorship election. Led by Speaker Olamide Oladiji, the lawmakers expressed their confidence in Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, citing his commitment to continuing the legacies of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
The endorsement comes amid previous tensions within the Assembly, as some members had passed a vote of no confidence on the speaker following his public assurance of support for Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy. However, Speaker Oladiji emphasized that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s achievements and dedication to governance had earned their full backing.
During their visit to the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Speaker Oladiji highlighted the governor’s accomplishments, including prioritizing salary payments, initiating the recruitment of 2,000 health workers, and fostering harmonious relations among the different arms of government in the state. The lawmakers expressed their belief in the continuity of the APC-led government and pledged to ensure peaceful primary elections.
In response, the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, welcomed the delegation and assured them of a fair and transparent primary election process. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the party’s office and state Assembly members and outlined the planned procedures for candidate selection.
