Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has initiated a monthly outreach program offering free medical services to residents of Akure, the state capital. The program, which commenced on August 5, 2024, has already provided medical care to 1,000 residents under the supervision of Akure South Local Government Chairman, Gbenga Fasua.
The initiative, overseen by Fasua and supported by the chairmen of Akure East Local Council Development Area, Taiwo Samson, Akure West LCDA, Sunday Kekereowo, and Oyemekun LCDA, Ifedayo Ologometa, aims to treat various health issues at no cost to patients.
“This complies with an aspect of the various palliative programmes designed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to assist the less-privileged in this testing period; many who cannot afford the costs of medical treatment,” Fasua stated. He emphasized that the outreach is a continuous effort, with medical experts being deployed monthly to address a wide range of ailments.
In addition to healthcare services, Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration has also distributed food items to vulnerable residents and released over N2 billion in soft loans to support petty traders, farmers, artisans, and young entrepreneurs. The governor has further mobilized contractors for ongoing infrastructure projects and awarded new contracts to improve basic social amenities.
The program aligns with the broader efforts by local government chairmen, who have implemented various palliative measures in line with the governor’s agenda to alleviate hardship among the masses. Fasua also mentioned the introduction of a Community Market by the state government, in collaboration with local administrations, to provide subsidized food items and agricultural seedlings to residents.
