Omokri Defends Tinubu Over NNPCL Decisions Amidst Fuel Price Hikes

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has argued that it is misguided to blame President Bola Tinubu for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) business decisions, including recent fuel price hikes. Omokri, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, emphasized that NNPCL operates as a limited liability company with its own board of directors responsible for management and profitability.

He noted that despite the federal government’s ownership, NNPCL’s decisions are independent and should not be directly attributed to the president. “It betrays a lack of understanding of corporate governance when politicians and activists attack President Bola Tinubu over NNPCL’s actions,” Omokri said in a statement.

President Tinubu has faced public criticism following NNPCL’s recent hike in petrol prices, which saw costs jump from N580/N617 to N850/N893 per litre. However, Omokri contended that the company’s leadership should be held accountable for its actions, as it is not subject to the same regulatory frameworks as government ministries and agencies.
