The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has reflected on the significant transformation his reign has brought to the town, describing a time before his installation when he hesitated to acknowledge his roots due to the town’s underdevelopment. Speaking at the eighth edition of the Distinguished Role Model Award, organized by The Wings School in Iwo, the monarch credited his leadership for the improvements in the community.
Oba Akanbi stated, “Before I became the king, when I googled Iwo, I couldn’t get much information about the town and sometimes I can’t even tell people I am from Iwo town.” However, he noted that since his ascension, the town has witnessed notable progress, allowing its people to proudly associate with Iwo.
He commended the efforts of prominent figures, including Prof. Lai Olurode, for contributing to the town’s growth and urged students to avoid social vices while emulating successful indigenes. The event recognized several accomplished individuals from Iwo, including professors and community leaders, for their contributions to various fields.
