In a significant development, the Olubadan-in-Council has officially certified High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin as fit to ascend the revered throne as the Olubadan of Ibadanland. This declaration came following a special meeting held at the Oja-Oba palace of the Olubadan in Ibadan on Friday.
At the meeting, which was attended by 10 members of the Olubadan-in-Council, the consensus was reached to endorse High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin as the Olubadan designate. Notably absent from the gathering was Otun Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abimbola Ajibola, who had reportedly expressed reservations about Olakulehin’s suitability.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, affirmed that the Olubadan-in-Council had fulfilled its role as the traditional kingmakers of Ibadan. He further disclosed that a formal letter would be dispatched to Governor Seyi Makinde seeking government consent before proceeding with the coronation of Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
High Chief Ladoja expressed gratitude for the support received and extended prayers for the collective well-being of all involved, expressing hope that everyone would be present to witness the historic coronation ceremony.
