Oliver Bearman to Replace Suspended Kevin Magnussen at Haas for Azerbaijan GP

Briton Oliver Bearman will step in for the suspended Kevin Magnussen at Haas for the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix, scheduled for 13-15 September. Magnussen has been banned from the race after exceeding Formula 1’s penalty-point limit, marking the first time a driver has faced a race ban under this system since its introduction in 2013.

Bearman, who is already set to join Haas full-time in 2025, will make his second Grand Prix appearance after previously substituting for Carlos Sainz at Ferrari in Saudi Arabia earlier this season. The 19-year-old impressed by finishing seventh despite minimal preparation, having driven the car for the first time in final practice. His performance in Saudi Arabia was instrumental in securing his future seat on the grid.

This season, Bearman has gained experience driving the Haas VF-24 during free practice sessions at the Emilia-Romagna, Spanish, British, and Hungarian Grands Prix. He expressed confidence in his ability to adapt quickly to the challenge in Baku, drawing on both his Ferrari experience and previous outings with Haas.

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu sees the Azerbaijan GP as an important opportunity for both Bearman and the team, saying, “This is another excellent opportunity for both Ollie and the team to work together, this time throughout an entire race weekend.”
