The Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has praised the people of the South-East for their composed demeanor amidst the nationwide protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the prevailing economic challenges in the country. In a statement released to journalists, Isiguzoro commended the South-East for their discernment in refraining from leading protests against Tinubu and the Federal Government, despite enduring neglect and discrimination since the inception of the Buhari regime.
Isiguzoro highlighted various injustices faced by the South-East, including governmental neglect, exclusion from federal appointments, and discriminatory actions such as the demolition of Igbo properties in Lagos and the burning of Igbo markets in the South-West. Despite these challenges, the South East has chosen to navigate the hardships with resilience and wisdom, avoiding the casualties and violence witnessed in past protests.
The statement emphasized the need for the Federal Government to address the grievances of the South-East and Nigerians at large by implementing the recommendations of the 2014 Constitutional Conference. Isiguzoro urged the government to overhaul President Tinubu’s economic team with competent individuals to salvage the deteriorating economy and alleviate the suffering of the citizens.
In solidarity with all suffering Nigerians, Ohanaeze called for a constructive approach to governance, emphasizing the importance of heeding the voices of reason and prioritizing the welfare of the people. Instead of issuing threats to dissatisfied citizens, the government should focus on implementing viable solutions to address the mounting dissent and societal challenges.
