Ogun State Student and Parents to Face Court for Assaulting Teacher and Principal

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, has affirmed that legal action will be taken against an SS3 student of Agbara Grammar School, Akanni Olawale, and his parents following their alleged assault on a teacher and the school principal. The incident, which occurred on February 14, stemmed from the principal’s decision to seize Olawale’s uniform due to unruly behavior and his registration at another school for exams.

According to reports, Olawale, accompanied by his parents, confronted the school authorities, resulting in a physical altercation where the student reportedly slapped a teacher and tore his clothes. Despite attempts to pacify the situation, the confrontation escalated, prompting intervention from education authorities.

Commissioner Arigbabu confirmed the incident and stated that legal action will be taken against the perpetrators, emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance policy for such behavior in schools. He asserted that prosecuting the student and parents is essential to deter future incidents of violence against teachers and school officials.

Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools in Ogun State, Seun Agbesanwa, condemned the assault and called on the state government to ensure appropriate sanctions are imposed on those involved. He stressed the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment for both educators and students.
