The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has mandated 24-hour patrols around public spaces, particularly worship centers, during and after the Easter celebration to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
Alamutu directed area commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to enhance security measures in their respective areas of jurisdiction to curb crime and criminality as Easter festivities peak.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Omolola Odutola, Alamutu emphasized the importance of safeguarding locations such as Long Bridge, Bamboo, Four Square, Alapako, Onigari, Ogunmakin, Straightgate, worship centers, financial institutions, and other black spots across the state.
The statement outlined the deployment of police officers to man entry and exit points, conduct aggressive raids of flashpoints, routine patrols, and barricade designated roads for stop and search operations. Residents and fun-seekers were urged to cooperate with security personnel encountered during their duties.
Intelligence-based policing will be implemented through collaborative efforts with other security agencies to complement the operational capabilities of the police. Inter-agency surveillance will be conducted to prevent sudden attacks or the escalation of violence during the festive season.
With a focus on preventing possible attacks, security measures will be intensified at strategic locations identified for enhanced vigilance. The statement assured residents of the police’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful Easter celebration while deterring nefarious activities by potential criminals.
