Ogun State Government Refutes Claims of Governor Abiodun Calling Protesters Sore Losers

The Ogun State Government, on Saturday, dismissed as fabrication the claim that Governor Dapo Abiodun referred to Nigerians as “sore losers” amid the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.

In a statement issued by Mr. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor, it was clarified that Governor Abiodun was addressing certain 2023 election losers who are allegedly exploiting the youth’s dissent to destabilize the country, not the protesters themselves.

Akinmade emphasized that Governor Abiodun never suggested, in his interview with Channels TV, that ordinary Nigerians protesting the economic situation were sore losers. The governor is known for his high regard for Nigerian youths, students, and workers, and recently praised Ogun residents, especially the youth, for their peaceful conduct during the protests.

The statement condemned the misrepresentation of the governor’s words, asserting that he was referring to political opponents of President Bola Tinubu who are allegedly using the protests for personal gain.

“The claim that Governor Abiodun insulted ordinary Nigerians is spurious, malicious, and lacks any rational basis,” the statement read. “Governor Abiodun was clearly emphasizing irredentist opposition leaders who do not wish this administration well, urging them to prepare for the 2027 polls instead of mindlessly discrediting every government policy just to excite passions and incite people against the government.”

Governor Abiodun reiterated his respect for the protesters and assured that his administration remains committed to their well-being and happiness.
