The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Lateef Adebimpe, has announced that preparations are underway for the coronation of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland. Oba Adebimpe made this declaration following a visit by members of the Olubadan-In-Council to Oba Olakulehin’s residence in Alalubosa Government Reserved Area, Ibadan.
The impending coronation follows the recent public appearance of Oba Olakulehin, marking his emergence as the successor to the late 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun. During the meeting, Oba Adebimpe assured reporters that Oba Olakulehin is in good health, emphasizing the importance of ensuring his well-being before proceeding with the coronation rites.
According to Ibadan chieftaincy traditions, Oba Olakulehin’s nomination as Olubadan must be endorsed by the next person in his line, Otun Balogun Tajudeen Ajibola, within 21 days of the demise of the previous monarch. The Olubadan-In-Council is diligently overseeing the process to ensure adherence to customary protocols.
Meanwhile, preparations for the coronation are in full swing, with the distribution of ceremonial attire already underway. Family members and interested individuals have been provided with clothing for the historic occasion, signifying the imminent transition of leadership in Ibadanland.
